The Head and The Heart

A few notes on The Head And The Heart show that I attended last week:

- My friend and I sat in the bleachers upstairs because I am pregnant and cannot drink, and drinks are a necessity if I'm going to be in the crowded mass on the floor. Also, I did not want the speakers to obliterate my developing kid's ears.

- I don't remember much about the first opener, except that the bassist was really into the music and his shoulder length curls, slight build, and groovy movements reminded me of Zoot from Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. I go through life seeing people as Muppets and cartoon characters. It's a disturbing and twisted way to go through life.
- The second band to play arrived on stage about ten minutes late. We did not enjoy this band. At all. I looked up some reviews about the band and they apparently have fans, but I like for music to be melodic and skillfully arranged and to not sound like the moans of sinners in hell. When the singer said he was going to do a couple more, the audience groaned, "noooo!" in unison... this is sad and makes me feel bad, but it was effective and they left the stage. When asked what I thought of this band's music, I made myself sound 142 and said, "it was just noise." Melissa and I likened ourselves to Muppets during this portion of the show as we were grumps (although, not lone grumps), sitting in the balcony.

- Finally, The Head And The Heart came out. They sounded simply amazing. Beautiful music, unanticipated energy, and ahhh, harmony... melody... arrangement. It was a Tuesday night and I stayed up way past my new early bedtime, but since this is one of the last few shows that I'll be attending for a long, long while, it was well worth the agony of the opening act and the drool on my desk as I drifted off to dreamland at the office the next morning.
